The cross-border permit service is the reason serious riders track this place down. Most Bangkok rental shops hand you keys and a helmet; Bernd's operation equips the bike with panniers, writes the border paperwork, and arranges drone footage of your route if you want the memento. Start with the Honda CB500X if you haven't ridden adventure bikes before.

You walk into a residential soi in Dan Samrong and the shopfront is a row of adventure bikes facing the street, helmets stacked on the counter, pannier sets hung on the wall. Big Bike Rental Bangkok has operated here since 2014, German-owned, stocked with Honda, Yamaha, and Kawasaki models spanning 233cc trail bikes to 755cc touring machines built for Thai highways and northern mountain roads.

The fleet centers on mid-displacement adventure bikes proven on long-distance Thai routes. Honda CB500X and the newer NX500 rent at ฿2,200 and ฿2,400 per day, the Yamaha TENERE 700 at ฿3,600, and the Honda XL750 Transalp at ฿3,800, with lighter trail options (Honda CRF300L, Kawasaki KLX230) starting at ฿1,400 for riders prioritizing off-road clearance over highway comfort. All bikes include a 300km daily limit, accommodate two riders, and support add-on panniers or luggage boxes for multi-day trips. Nationwide delivery covers Pattaya, Hua Hin, Phuket, Krabi, and Chiang Mai; cross-border rental permits extend to Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Malaysia with paperwork processed through the shop.

Owner Bernd speaks German and English, the rental contract includes third-party insurance, and the deposit sits at ฿40,000 regardless of bike choice. The shop also arranges professional tour photography and videography with drone capability, a service aimed at riders documenting longer routes through northern Thailand or cross-border loops into neighboring countries. Riding gear (helmets, gloves, jackets with protective pads) rents separately.

Deposit is cash or passport hold. Passport hold requires the actual document, which limits flexibility if you need ID during the rental. Hours run 8 AM to 6 PM daily.
