The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
1645/6 Phetchaburi Rd, Makkasan, Ratchathewi, Bangkok 10400
This is the spiritual anchor for the LDS community in Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, and beyond. The architectural detail is worth noting: lotus flower elements on the exterior, carved ratchaphruek blooms inside, lighting inspired by royal sun umbrellas. If you are a member traveling through Bangkok, the temple operates Sundays only from 9 AM to 2 PM. Reservations are available but walk-ins are welcome during those hours.
The central spire climbs 242 feet above Phetchaburi Road, flanked by eight smaller spires that reference traditional Thai temple architecture. You step through a wheelchair-accessible entrance into a structure clad in precast concrete panels fabricated locally by Asia Group of Chom Thong, with exterior surfaces carrying diamond shapes interwoven with lotus flower elements and a herringbone pattern drawn from Thai decorative arts. The building announces itself quietly but unmistakably in a neighborhood otherwise dominated by mid-rise commercial blocks and residential towers, the white concrete and glass reflecting both the sacred function and the deliberate incorporation of Thai design language into a global religious tradition that now counts 185 operating temples worldwide. The first in mainland Southeast Asia.
Inside, the temple holds two instruction rooms, two sealing rooms, and one baptistry across 48,525 square feet of floor space distributed over six stories. Lighting fixtures throughout take their design from royal sun umbrellas, while carved millwork depicts ratchaphruek flowers, Thailand's national flower. Windows feature silk-screened and frosted carved glass set in interlocking octagonal patterns. The site spans 1.77 acres just north of the main Phetchaburi corridor in Makkasan, within walking distance of the Airport Rail Link stop at Makkasan Station.
Endowment presentations run in multiple languages. Temple clothing rental is available; members are encouraged to bring their own. Baptistry clothing is provided at no cost. The temple maintains an arrival center with changing facilities and an on-site distribution center for garments and related clothing.
The temple operates on Sundays only, from 9 AM to 2 PM.
It serves a temple district that spans Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, and other parts of Southeast Asia, anchoring a community of more than 23,000 members across Thailand in over 40 congregations. The English-speaking LDS congregation in Bangkok has met continuously since 1961. The temple was announced in April 2015, groundbreaking followed in January 2019, and Ronald A. Rasband dedicated the building on October 22, 2023.
