The campus sits at 1061 Soi Itsaraphap 15 in Thonburi, a state university under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. The institution traces its lineage to 1896 when King Chulalongkorn established the Rajawittayalai School. Classes began on March 17 of that year. By 1903 the Western Teacher Training School had opened at the original site, and in 1915 Bansomdejchaopraya Secondary School took shape at the Somdet Chaophraya residence.

The modern university operates eight faculties: Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, Science and Technology, Management Sciences, Engineering and Industrial Technology, and a standalone Music College. Add a Graduate School offering master's and doctoral programs. The 2023 enrollment reached 16,712 students taught by 557 faculty members. A second campus runs on 163 acres in Suphanburi Province, supporting regional programs and the Suphanburi Herbal Project for local community development.

Three demonstration schools operate under the university umbrella, covering early childhood through secondary levels. These serve dual purposes: educating students and providing practice-teaching laboratories for education majors. The main Thonburi campus also houses the Hall of Honor, the Thonburi Learning Center preserving institutional archives, and a main auditorium on the fourth floor of Building 1.

The institutional focus remains fixed on producing teachers and educational personnel for provincial schools, alongside programs in music performance, digital media, engineering, agriculture, and public health. The Green University initiative runs concurrent with the Plant Genetic Conservation Project. School colors are purple and white; the motto is "Sajam We Mat Waja." The emblem honors Somdet Chaophraya with the Sema Suriratmangala image.

Instruction runs in Thai, and the academic calendar follows the Thai university system. If you need English-medium degree programs or international student services, this is not the campus. The mission serves Thailand's public education workforce, and the curriculum reflects that mandate.
