If you have time for one Bangkok orientation, take the CO COMBO. Five hours on bicycle and boat, with stops for Chinatown street snacks and a temple visit, opens up neighbourhoods the highway grid hides. The 7 AM start is the right call. You meet on Soi 24 next to River City and within a few minutes you are off the main road and into Talat Noi on a bicycle, on the back lanes and footpaths that the company has spent thirty years mapping.
Co van Kessel started running these routes more than three decades ago, a Dutchman who treated the city's canal-and-alley network as the real Bangkok and the main-road version as a distraction. After his passing in July 2012, the company stayed in the family. Co-founder Chanmanee Phonphakdee (Nong) leads it now, backed by family members and acquaintances. The licence is TAT 11/10279.
The shape of the tour menu reflects how the founder split up the city. CO ORIGINAL is the 3-hour starter at 1,250 baht, with morning and afternoon departures from the Old Town side. CO CLASSICAL is the same length and price but runs into Chinatown and Talat Noi, your immediate doorstep here. CO COMBO at 5 hours and 2,500 baht stitches both ideas together with a long-tail boat segment through the canals, plus food along the way. There is also CO BY NIGHT for evening riding, CO ALL DAY for an eight-hour route that uses bicycle, boat, and the local train, and the off-the-pedals options: a two-hour walking tour, a two-hour longtail canaling tour, a four-hour tuk-tuk loop, and the five-hour Rocket Boating multi-boat run.
