Sarnies Bangkok
101, 103 Charoen Krung 44 Alley, Khwaeng Bang Rak, Bang Rak, Bangkok 10500
Order a flat white and the smashed avo before the menu pulls you toward the heavier brunch plates. Sarnies works best as a morning visit when the timber-and-brick room is filling slowly and the espresso bar is the loudest thing in the building. Lead with the in-house roast; the kitchen is a strong second act.
You walk in past the wooden facade on Charoen Krung 44 and the room opens into exposed brick, weathered timber, and the smell of fresh espresso pulled at the front counter. The building started life as a boat-repair shop more than 150 years ago, and the bones of that history sit in the beams overhead.
Founder Ben Lee, an Australian ex-finance professional, opened Sarnies in Bangkok in 2013 after building the brand in Singapore from 2011. Co-founder Eric Chan came on board the following year. The Bang Rak flagship became the anchor of Sarnies' Bangkok operation and one of the original draws for the Creative District around Charoen Krung 44.
The coffee program is the centerpiece. Beans are roasted on-site every week, which is rare for a Bangkok cafe of this size and gives the espresso a freshness you can taste in the flat white. The food runs Aussie cafe staples crossed with Thai pantry ingredients: brunch plates, sandwiches, and all-day dining built for the laptop crowd as much as the weekend brunch crowd.
The soi is narrow and street parking is essentially nonexistent. Take the BTS to Saphan Taksin and walk in, or grab a Grab to the mouth of the alley.
Best entered as a morning or early-afternoon visit, ideally with one person who wants the long brunch and one who just needs a serious flat white and a corner to work from. The room handles both without forcing either into the other's rhythm.
