Co van Kessel (Tha Phra Chan) - Bangkok Bicycle Tours
Phra Chan Alley, Phra Borom Maha Ratchawang, Khet Phra Nakhon, Bangkok 10200
Start with CO CLASSICAL if you have only one morning. The Chinatown and Talad Noi loop delivers the highest density of architectural texture without the Grand Palace crowds. The eight-hour CO ALL DAY option adds a train segment and longtail boat, but the three-hour formats are the tighter edit.
You meet at the shophouse office on Phra Chan Alley, a fifteen-minute walk from Khao San Road and directly opposite the Tha Phra Chan ferry pier. The bikes lean against the wall outside and the guide checks your seat height before the group rolls out toward the first temple.
Co van Kessel founded the operation as Bangkok's first dedicated bicycle touring company, and the route design still reflects his original brief: avoid the clichéd tourist corridors and steer into the quaint residential sois, the working canal-side neighborhoods, and the older Chinese shophouse blocks where the street grid narrows and the pace drops. Six tour formats run daily with morning departures at seven or eight and afternoon starts at one or two. CO ORIGINAL covers Old Town temples and street snacks in three hours. CO CLASSICAL runs through Chinatown, Talad Noi, and across the river to Thonburi in the same span. CO COMBO adds a longtail boat segment for five hours total. CO TRAVERSE is the food-focused route at four hours. CO BY NIGHT departs in the evening. CO ALL DAY runs for eight hours and folds in a train ride and extended boat time alongside the bicycle legs.
The company ethos leans sustainable and community-driven. Meals, drinks, and snacks are included in the base price, which starts at 1,250 baht for the three-hour rides and reaches 2,500 baht at the top end. Temple entry is covered where routes require it. The TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence has renewed annually since 2011.
Departure times are fixed and tours run rain or shine, so book the morning slot if afternoon thunderstorms are forecast. The company also operates a second Bangkok meeting point at River City on Charoen Krung Road and a separate Chiang Mai office for northern tours.
