The online appointment system and advance submission window of up to 45 days before visa expiry are genuinely useful features that reduce on-the-day stress. That said, arriving without a complete document set is the single most common reason visits go sideways, so preparation matters more than showing up early.
The Government Complex on Chaeng Watthana Road is home to Bangkok's main immigration processing center for foreign residents. Formally titled Immigration Division 1, the office sits inside Ratthaprasasanabhakti Building B and handles the full range of immigration services for foreigners living in Bangkok, excluding airports and seaports.\n\nServices cover a wide scope. Visa extensions, 90-day residence notifications, re-entry permits, permanent resident permits, visa type changes, and alien registration are all processed here. The office operates Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM, with walk-in queue tickets issued between 8:30 AM and 3:30 PM. The Government Complex provides a free shuttle bus service running from 5:30 to 18:30, which is useful given the distance from MRT and BTS stations.\n\nThe online appointment system is one of the most practical features for regular users. After completing an initial in-person 90-day report, subsequent notifications can be filed online. Visa extension applications can also be submitted up to 45 days before expiry date, giving residents flexibility rather than forcing a last-minute visit. Online queue reservations require arriving 15 minutes early with a complete document set; missing paperwork or selecting the wrong service category are the two most common reasons a reservation gets canceled at the counter.\n\nFor visa extensions, standard documents include passport photo page copies, last entry stamp, most recent visa, departure card (TM.6), and TM.30 address notification. The TM.30 is filed by your landlord or accommodation provider within 24 hours of arrival and must be current. Work permit and visa matters tied to employment are handled separately at the One Stop Centre for Visa and Work Permit at Chamchuri Square, not at this location.
