Mahanakorn University of Technology opened in 1990 as an engineering college under Prof. Dr. Sitthichai Pookaiyaudom, former dean at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang. The campus sits on 96 acres in Nong Chok District, Bangkok's far eastern edge, with a second location at Vanit2 Building on New Petchaburi Road in the city center.

Four faculties operate here. Engineering covers bachelor's through doctoral tracks. Veterinary Science runs master's and bachelor's programs. Business Administration offers the same. Information Science and Technology rounds out the academic structure, with a separate graduate school coordinating postgraduate work across all divisions. As of 2023, enrollment stands at 3,410 students spread across 19 undergraduate majors, 9 master's specializations, and 4 doctoral fields.

The satellite program is what sets Mahanakorn apart from every other university in Thailand. In March 1998 the institution launched Thai Paht, a low-orbit microsatellite designed and built on campus. It remains the first and only Thai university to operate its own satellite. That aerospace engineering capability brought recognition from Asia Week Magazine in 1998 as one of Asia's top science and technology institutions, and Thailand's Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessment later scored the university 4.86 out of 5 in the research university category.

International partnerships connect Mahanakorn to the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, the University of New South Wales in Australia, Imperial College London, and the University of Surrey in England. Students and faculty move between these institutions for research collaboration and exchange programs.

The Nong Chok campus is not close to the BTS or MRT. You need a car or a long taxi ride from the nearest station. The Vanit2 location on New Petchaburi Road offers better access for evening or executive programs, but the main academic operations and research facilities are out in Nong Chok where the land allowed for a proper campus footprint.
