Major Ratchayothin holds a genuine place in Bangkok cinema history as the venue that introduced IMAX to Thailand. Today the complex remains competitive with the Krungsri IMAX screen, a 4DX auditorium for motion-enhanced viewing, and 14 total screens covering mainstream releases and special-format events. Its location between two major transit lines keeps footfall strong on weekend release days.

Major Cineplex Ratchayothin opened in 1998 on Phahonyothin Road in the Lat Yao subdistrict of Chatuchak, Bangkok. The complex made history at launch as the site of Thailand's first IMAX cinema, a distinction that established the Ratchayothin branch as the flagship address for premium cinema formats in the Thai capital.

The complex operates 14 screens with a combined capacity of approximately 4,000 seats. Format options include standard digital, the Krungsri IMAX auditorium, and an AIS 4DX screen that uses motion seats, wind, water, and scent effects synchronized to on-screen action. This variety of formats in a single complex makes the venue a practical choice for groups where different audience members want different viewing experiences on the same visit.

The IMAX screen at Ratchayothin is operated under the Krungsri IMAX branding, a long-running partnership between Major Cineplex and Krungsri Bank. The auditorium shows major Hollywood titles, local Thai productions with IMAX release versions, and special engagements throughout the year.

Transport access is a notable convenience. MRT Phahon Yothin station (Exit 3) on the Blue Line places the cinema within walking distance of one of the busiest interchange points in the northern Bangkok transit network. BTS Mo Chit station on the Sukhumvit Line is also accessible by short taxi or motorbike ride, and the nearby BTS Ratchayothin station on the Sukhumvit Line extension provides additional options for commuters traveling from the outer northern suburbs.

The wider complex on Phahonyothin Road includes retail, food and beverage options, and service outlets alongside the cinema, making it a functional stop for errands before or after a film. For Chatuchak-area residents and anyone commuting along the Phahonyothin corridor, Major Ratchayothin remains the most comprehensively equipped cinema destination in that part of the city.
