Scruffy Murphy's opened in December 2017 as the Bangkok outpost of a brand born in Phuket in 2001, and the Soi 23 version wasted no time making its mark. Within its first year of trading, the Irish-owned and Irish-operated pub claimed the Irish Pubs Global Award for best Irish whiskey experience in Asia, the Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa. That trophy did not arrive by accident. The whiskey list is the heart of the offer. Popular classics such as Jameson and Tullamore Dew sit alongside boutique labels including Teeling's, Pogues, and the West Cork series. Selected single-malt and small-batch distilleries from Ireland round out a collection that holds its own against any specialist whiskey bar in the city. Food earns equal weight here. The kitchen runs a genuine Irish menu from morning through evening. Order the Ulster Fry to start the day, move to braised beef and Guinness stew when the evening cools, and finish with homemade bread and butter pudding.
