You step off Ratchadamnoen Klang into a five-storey building that has been showing Thai art since August 9, 2003. The Queen's Gallery Foundation opened that year after Queen Sirikit requested a permanent space for Thai visual arts, particularly paintings and sculpture by artists the wider public had not yet encountered. The queen presided at the opening.
The building holds 3,700 square metres of floor space. Exhibitions rotate throughout the year across all five levels, so the work on display changes often. The gallery's stated focus remains Thai artists at different career stages: senior honored figures whose reputations are established, and younger practitioners still building recognition.
Admission is 50 baht. Students enter free. The gallery accepts credit cards. Hours run 10AM to 7PM every day except Wednesday, when the building is closed. Group visits of eight or more require advance booking at 02-281-5360.
Paid parking is available on-site. The building is fully wheelchair accessible, including the entrance, toilets, and car park. If you are coming by boat, take the Saen Saep Express to Phan Fah stop and walk south. Bus routes 2, 15, 47, 70, and 503 all pass the gallery.
The Phra Nakhon location puts you in the middle of Rattanakosin Island's historic zone. The Democracy Monument sits a few minutes east. Wat Bowonniwet, the temple that gives the sub-district its name, is within walking distance. Most visitors fold the gallery into a wider old-city route rather than making it a standalone trip.
