You walk into a teaching room where the mats are already rolled out and the instructor is setting up the anatomy charts. This is Wat Po's second campus, opened in 1998 to meet demand from international students who needed the same royal-temple lineage without crossing the river every morning.
The flagship course is Thai Massage Basic: 30 hours split into ten three-hour sessions. You learn the foundational sequences, pressure points, and body mechanics that Wat Po has been teaching since the medical school formalized the curriculum in 1955. The Herbal Ball Massage course runs six hours and focuses on compress technique and heat application. Both programs issue official Wat Po certificates on completion, the same credential structure as the temple school itself.
Instructors are dispatched from the main Wat Po faculty, rotating through the Sukhumvit branch to maintain consistency across campuses. Classes run in small groups with close supervision, and both English and Japanese instruction are available. Japanese staff work on-site full-time, a legacy of the branch's early years when most international enrollment came from Japan. UNESCO recognized Thai massage as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2019, reinforcing the institutional weight behind the certification.
