Le Café des Stagiaires traces its origins to Shanghai in 2011, when three École Hôtelière de Lausanne graduates turned an intern hangout into a Franco-Belgian institution. The Bangkok outpost, open since 2015, keeps the formula intact: a French and Belgian food menu built for sharing, Belgian draught and bottled beers, French wine, and weekly live bands plus DJs that carry the room well past dinner.
Le Café des Stagiaires arrived on Sathon Soi 12 in July 2015, four years after three hospitality graduates from the École Hôtelière de Lausanne launched the original in Shanghai. The founders, two Frenchmen named Max and Ben and a Belgian named Tom, designed CS around a specific gap they saw in Asian cities: the absence of a genuine European neighborhood bar, the kind of place where regulars know the staff, linger over an apéro, and end up staying for dinner. Their unofficial motto, printed nowhere in particular but repeated often, is 'There are no strangers here; only friends you haven't met yet.'
The food menu leans French and Belgian, with an emphasis on sharing. Cheese and charcuterie are imported from France and Spain, rillettes are made in-house, and the kitchen turns out pasta bolognaise, croquettes, and tapas alongside classic brasserie plates. Wine pours French, beer pours Belgian, and the bar also runs Italian spritzes and cocktails. Dinner service runs every day from 16:00; brunch covers Friday through Sunday from 11:30 to 16:00.
The venue is built for more than dinner. CS hosts top local DJs and live bands every week. For groups, a private room accommodates up to 50 guests and comes equipped with a private bar, a balcony, an upgraded sound system, and a disco ball. The audience the founders set out to attract, everyone from interns to senior expats to curious Thai regulars, has shown up across multiple cities: Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, and the consolidated Shanghai flagship each sustain the same atmosphere.
For the international community in Silom and Sathon, CS fills a practical role. It is the bar you walk to after the office, the spot where a quick drink reliably becomes an evening, and the address you bring visitors who want something unpretentious, European, and lively rather than formal or hotel-polished.
