Coffee in Bangkok
Bangkok's café scene runs from third-wave roasters sourcing single-origin beans from Chiang Rai and Nan to air-conditioned chains that exist mainly so you can escape the heat for twenty minutes. Our directory holds 842 cafés across the city, ordered by rating and review count.
Where the cafés are
Watthana district carries the largest share by a wide margin, which is what you would expect from the Sukhumvit corridor between Phrom Phong, Thong Lo, and Ekkamai. Sathon, Pathum Wan around Siam and Chit Lom, and Bang Rak along Silom and Charoen Krung each hold a substantial cluster. Lat Phrao, Phaya Thai around Ari, and Khlong Toei follow. Ari in particular has become the city's most concentrated small-roaster neighborhood, and Charoen Krung the most interesting for shophouse conversions.
Finding the right one
- Roaster or café. Some places roast their own beans and will talk you through origin and process. Others buy in. Both are fine, but they are different visits.
- Air conditioning. Not a small detail here. Open-air shophouse cafés are lovely in December and hard work in April.
- Hours. Independent cafés in Bangkok often close early, and many close one fixed day a week. Check the venue page before you cross town.
- Getting there. Filter by district and pick something near a BTS or MRT station. Traffic, not distance, decides how long the trip takes.
Ratings and review counts on each listing come from public listing data and reflect what visitors reported. We do not verify or adjust them.
Frequently asked questions
Which Bangkok neighborhoods have the most cafés?
Watthana holds by far the most in our directory, covering the Sukhumvit corridor through Phrom Phong, Thong Lo, and Ekkamai. Sathon, Pathum Wan around Siam, Bang Rak along Silom and Charoen Krung, and Lat Phrao follow, with Phaya Thai around Ari and Khlong Toei close behind.
How is this list ordered?
By rating and review count from public listing data. We do not curate the order, we do not rank by editorial preference, and nobody pays for placement. Use the district filter to narrow the list to one part of the city.
Why do some malls and restaurants show up in the list?
Venue categories come from public listing data, so a mall or a restaurant with a well-known coffee counter can land in the café category. We correct obvious mistakes as we find them. If a listing looks wrong to you, the venue page has a report link.
Where should I go if I want to work from a café?
Use the work-friendly cafés page instead. It filters this category down to the cafés flagged as good for working on a laptop, which is a much shorter and more useful list for that purpose.
